I am better off just being me. Doing what I like, when I like. Deciding what hobby to pursue, what to wear, what to study... it beats living the Watchtower way every.single.day.

Are you better off as a worldly person or a JW?
by Jules Saturn ini was having a conversation with a relative who has been inactive for several decades (part of the ‘75 generation) and he argued that a person that is a born in is better off staying in the organization rather than someone like him who lived as a “worldly” person but then became a witness later in life.
he argues that when you’re born in, all you know nothing outside of the organization, so you’re better off in than out, that’s why when born ins leave the org, they always come back.
i agree that as a born in, your social circle is composed of witnesses but i do feel that even born ins would be happier outside of the org than being in.

How do you deal with the loneliness after leaving?
by Whynot ini'm having one of those days where i feel lonely and wish i had someone to just hang out with.
my husband got disfellowshipped 3 years ago and even though i didn't do anything wrong i was pushed away.
my so called "friends" decided to avoid me.

I volunteered at the humane society, joined recreation leagues sports through the city/county where I lived. I played volleyball, basketball and softball, it was so much fun. My team would go out after for food and drinks. I went to school, got involved in community events that interested me. I joined soroptomist, rotary and a community organization that helped low income women prepare for job interviews. I didn’t do all of them at the same time, but just tried out different things as they appealed to me.

What Is The Most Ridiculous Thing You Have Heard From A Witness?
by minimus ini remember an elder questioning a woman who had admitted to giving and receiving oral sex from her unbelieving mate.
he asked her the most intimate questions which clearly flustered her.
interestingly, she “confessed “ to the elders because her conscience bothered her.

I think the Awake article on ET is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Seriously? How was I ever a part of this religion?!?!?

I’m sorry for what you are going through. I have been out almost 20 years and I can’t imagine a situation where I would allow someone to treat my spouse so disrespectfully. I am “just inactive” too, but still shunned by some of my relatives.
I think it’s ridiculous that you and your daughter are being treated this way. Of course not being invited can also be a gift, and I am betting your daughter will not soon forget this, further insuring she won’t join this cult.

When they do things like this they are asking your spouse to be complicit in shunning you - which she is agreeing to.
When I have been invited to family functions I decline after I ask if my DF’d neice’s and nephews are invited.

Anybody here like to dabble on the roulette wheel ?
by smiddy3 ini came to the conclusion a long time ago that many jehovah`s witnesses are very superstitious in my opinion.. if after leaving the jw`s or even sometime before leaving the jw`s you may have been tempted to use the pokie`s /slots or the lotto , or even the roulette wheel at a casino .
now did you know that if you add up all the numbers on a roulette wheel it adds up to 666 .?.
now i have no problem myself playing lotto ,keno ,scratchies ,etc, however ,would i ever play the roulette wheel ever again ?.

I like to go to the casino maybe once or twice a year. It’s fun, I’ve won lots of times, and I’ve lost lots of times. I usually meet up with old friends there and we have fun catching up while drinking and gambling. I’ve even played Bingo at the Catholic Church it was fun! I’ve not played roulette but a couple of times and didn’t do well :-)

I am sorry you are going through this. He is not able to have the relationship you deserve in his current state. Unfortunately he is more consumed with the cult than your relationship. If you continue in this way you will be hurt, again and again. Your needs will always come second to this so called religion. He can’t have a girlfriend and return to the cult, it doesn’t work that way.

Thank You All - Dealing with my Dad
by truth_b_known init was 2010 when i first came to this website.
it was the day after the memorial.
i swore i would never attend another memorial, ever.. my father had called me a few day prior to that memorial and encouraged me to go.

It’s nice when I get glimpses of who my non-cult parents would have been, but then the cult always kicks back in and the “normal” parent is gone. I have learned to accept them as they are and realize we will never have a normal relationship.

New Store called Best Life Gifts
by Franklin30 ini noticed a recent post where it was suggested the store was taken over by hostile means!.
the person who posted it pretended to have knowledge of why the store changed names but clearly was operating with an agenda!
one filled with lies, misinformation and deceit!.

I’m going to take a guess that the people on this board aren’t really interested in buying some best life ever gifts............ not to mention everyone knew he had an agenda when he posted it. Most people don’t blindly believe everything they read.... oh wait.
